Manhattan Bypass

Today, almost all of the undersea cables coming from Europe land on either the New Jersey shore or Long Island and “Homerun” directly to one of the major carrier hotels situated in Manhattan; either 60 Hudson street or 111 8th Ave.  In order for customers to connect to these undersea networks they must procure a local loop from wherever they may be collocated to one of these carrier hotel centers in Manhattan.  After the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on NYC companies utilizing these cable systems have tried to build Business Continuity and Disaster Recover plans by putting their collocations outside of Manhattan in the New Jersey or Long Island, but the same problem exists; in order to connect to Europe the data still flows through Manhattan.

OCG has tried to solve this problem and provide true diversity.  The OCG “Manhattan BYPASS Network” includes underwater access between eastern Long Island and New Jersey by utilizing our submarine cable between Staten Island and Brooklyn.
